Increasing bus product attractiveness by promoting customer satisfaction
Customer studies usually depict buses as the least attractive form of public transport, as they are associated with old, polluting or uncomfortable vehicles, unreliable services and long waiting times. Whilst experts know that new vehicles offer comfort levels similar to those of rail services and tackle the environmental impacts, work to change customer perceptions need to go beyond fleet renewal. This presentation will share the experience in Lisbon, where CARRIS implemented a bus trade-up plan covering not only new vehicles but, importantly, addressing all aspects related with customer experience before, during and after the trip. It explores new opportunities brought-up by digitalization to reposition buses within the public transport market as a high-quality service offering, and how this strategy is strongly related with the capability to attract high quality IT professionals.
