London, United KingdomSimon is the Head of Technology & Data for Surface Transport within Transport for London (TfL) and is accountable for the delivery of technology solutions to address the transport needs of one of the largest city’s in Europe. Simon joined TfL as iBus Project Director in 2006 and was responsible for the rollout of the world’s largest (£112m capex) Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and provided RTPI for 19,000 bus stops across London on roadside signs, the internet, SMS and via an Open Data interface to over 300 independent smartphone apps.
iBus2 – A new ITS Platform for London Buses
The presentation will scope the size and complexity of the current London operation, the subcontracting model that is in place and the political and financial challenges faced by the organisation. We will also discuss the challenges that we see for the next twenty years. We will then outline our approach to the new technical platform, how we are looking to 'open standards' to propel the business forward and how in doing so we intend to increase efficiency provide a great service to customers and yet still deliver the business fundamentals required.
